Researching and developing new concepts and products is a crucial, continual process that allows us to remain at the forefront. Zinzino has secured the future development of new products by acquiring the remaining 90% of BioActive Foods AS in December 2014 to become the sole owner of the company. BioActive Foods AS was founded in February 2011 with the goal of commercializing a proprietary health concept whereby dietary changes restore the balance between the vital, polyunsaturated fatty acid groups omega-6 and omega-3 in the body within 120 days. This is in line with official recommendations from the Nordic Council of Ministers (Nordic Nutrition Recommendations, 2005). 

We constantly update our knowledge through research activities at BioActive Foods in collaboration with several prominent European universities and research organizations. See examples of studies below.

Omega-6/Omega-3 Fatty Acid Balance and Skin Elasticity

The study was performed by BioActive Foods in collaboration with Zinzino AB, to investigate the effect of BalanceOil on the elasticity of the skin. 

Fatty acids are important for many skin functions. They act as building blocks in the skin cells, they lubricate the skin and they protect the skin from solar radiation. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are precursors for local hormones and signaling molecules such as eicosanoids. In this study, 50 female volunteers were divided into two groups; one group consumed 2 tablespoons of BalanceOil daily, while the other group functioned as the control.

In the group that consumed BalanceOil daily, the Omega-6/Omega-3 fatty acid balance normalized from an average of 15:1 to 4.8:1 in 60 days, while marine omega-3 (EPA and DHA) levels increased to 6.4 % in the blood. After 200 days, the Omega-6/Omega-3 fatty acid balance stabilized at 3:1. A significant improvement (p < 0.05) in skin elasticity was observed in the test group compared to the control group.

Proof of Balance in 120 days

Vitas AS in Norway and leading lab¬≠oratories have processed more than 140,000 Balance Tests (June 2016). The average Omega 6:3 ratios for those not taking an Omega-3 supplement were 24:1 (USA) and 12:1 (Europe). The ratios were 15:1 (USA) and 7:1 (Europe) for those taking an Omega 3 supplement. After 120 days, BalanceOil users have an average ratio of 4:1 (USA) and 3.5:1 (Europe).
